Strolling in the East Village I found myself in Jennifer’s
Way, a spanking new bakery on East 10th Street offering gluten-free
goodies. Actress Jennifer Esposito opened the place to provide a safe snack
haven for those with celiac disease, selling sweets that are also mostly vegan
(a couple contain eggs), as well as soy, peanut, and processed sugar free. Everything
is organic too! Soon after receiving her own diagnosis of the disease, she launched
Jennifer's Way website, a
comprehensive space with recipes, a blog, information, etc. to help others
"learn to live again, gluten-free."
The café itself is quaint, with kitschy albeit adorable décor,
flowers, photos, rustic/ chic furniture, and lovely staff. The aroma of freshly
baked pleasures filled the air as I perused the daily selection, the oven and
prep station in clear sight and in full swing. A chalkboard wall displays the mildly
chaotic menu.

The sizes of the yummy cookies are a bit small for $2.75 a
pop but I suppose it is understandable considering the nature of the
ingredients. Tiny cupcakes are similarly delicious and pricy. Perhaps I will
return to sample the other offerings- muffins, scones, quinoa bread, coffee and
tea.
Cash only.
